Background:
American model and actress Heather Graham received recognition after portraying Mercedes in the teen comedy License to Drive (1988), in which she was presented with a Young Artist award for her performance. That same year, she also gained notice when she was cast as drug addict Nadine in Gus Van Sant's Drugstore Cowboy (1988), which brought her an Independent Spirit award. She drew even more attention with her second Young Artist award after playing character Sara Benedict in the 1950s set musical Shout (1991), featuring superstar John Travolta and actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
